Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot makes registration of FIRs mandatory

(Photo: PTI)Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has ordered mandatory registration of FIRs for any cognizable offence.Gehlot chaired a meeting of the state home department and said a complainant, whose FIR has been declined, would be free to lodge a complaint against non-registration of complaint (FIR) on the portal.The concerned station house officer (SHO) would have to answer that within a time bound frame.Ashok Gehlot said this would result in increase in number of FIRs. It is well known that police often turn down registration of the FIRs to keep crime figures low, but Gehlot insisted that an FIR cannot be rejected unless there is a concrete reason to do so.”However, we do feel that more FIRs means more requirement of investigations and, we have decided to have more manpower for which new appointments will be made,” he said.Accordingly, as a priority, all promotions of head constable to Inspector will be done within this financial year, he added.Besides, a thousand sub inspectors and will be appointed directly. Eleven thousand vacancies of constables will be filled.Constables and head constables will be allowed to investigate smaller offences to reduce load on ASIs, SIs and Inspectors.Gehlot doubled the police sports fund to Rs two crore.
