first_imgLaurie Hamelin APTN National NewsThe Stk’emlupsemc te Secwepemc Nation in British Columbia is getting support from the Kamloops city council against a proposed mining development.Earlier this year, the Nation conducted its own environmental assessment of a proposed copper and gold mine. It called for an open pit mine that would be built on Pipsell, their sacred land near Jacko Lake in the Kamloops area.‘As long as it is responsible, as long as they have our input into it we’re not against all different things,” said Jeanette Jules, Tkemlups Councillor & Secwepemc Knowledge Keeper.” “There are just some areas too sacred, too holy to destroy.”Contact Laurie here: lhamelin@aptn.calast_img
