Avengers Endgame DeFeminized Edit Is Worlds Worst Fan Film Trend

first_img Remember the scene in Avengers: Endgame where all of the women superheroes team up to ferry the Infinity Gauntlet across the battlefield? Sure it was awesome seeing characters like Scarlet Witch and Gamora and Okoye all pose together, but I understand the feminist criticism that noted the scene was a little shallow. If anything, this empowering moment drew unfortunate attention to how little screen time these women had gotten otherwise. But you know what? I would defend that scene to the death now that some anonymous absolute loser has been circulating a “de-feminized” edit of Avengers: Endgame, as reported by NPR. It’s pretty dumb, and our friends at AskMen agree. In case you’re blissfully unfamiliar with the dumbest fan film trend of our modern Disney-driven blockbuster era, “de-feminized” edits first reared their ugly heads when nerd misogyny came after Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017. Total dorks who don’t deserve the likes of Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran produced a pirated edited copy of the film that removed those characters, basically all female characters, and all instances of men supposedly doing anything “feminine” or not being in charge in general. If you managed to get through it, the result was incomprehensible. And the same goes for this “de-feminized” edit of Avengers: Endgame. Now you could argue that the conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has too many characters, even after Thanos snaps away half the universe. But the answer definitely isn’t removing all the women characters! These chumps are still worked up about Brie Larson and Captain Marvel’s success so of course she’s gone. Hawkeye’s archery lessons with his daughter? Gone. Men no longer hug. Spider-Man never needs rescuing. Black Panther is also suspiciously absence. And we don’t even know how they handled Black Widow or Morgan Stark.Sorry to let you know this even exists, but at least now you know to avoid it.
