News A top official of Pakistan CricketBoard (PCB) says he does not see any Indo-Pak bilateral series taking place next year owing to the strained relations between the two countries Najam Sethi who heads the PCB executive committee said that it was highly unlikely Pakistan and India will play a bilateral series next year “I don’t think it will happen because of the currentscenario which will take time to change But I also don’t think India will avoid playing us in the Champions Trophy next year in England” he said Asked about a likely move by Ministry of Inter ProvincialCoordination to boycott all sporting ties with India in India Sethi said if the government issued directives to this effect the PCB will follow them “But we will only agree to not playing on Indian soil But if for example India agrees to matches with us on aneutral venue of our choice which we host then we will play them” he said Sethi said one thing was clear that whenever Indo-Pak bilateral cricket relations resume Pakistan will not go to India for any matches “They will have to play against us at a venue of our choice as we will be hosting any such series” Sethi said Asked whether he felt India would carry out its threat ofnot playing Pakistan in ICC events Sethi said he did not see this happening since a large chunk of the revenues generated from an ICC event is from Pakistan and India matches “Look if there is no India and Pakistan match in an ICCevent then financially it will hurt everyone including the ICC and I don’t see that happening since both countries get shares from the world total of15goals to threeagainst the very best that English football — Liverpool Chelsea (away) Arsenal Manchester United (away) and Tottenham Hotspur in that order — has to offer Manchester City are engaging in plunder and arson with grace as the victory march gathers pace The numbers are so many that it would be a pointless exercise to list them all They would only dull City’s achievement The club’s only loss this season arrived against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League when there was nothing at stake for the English side Pep Guardiola’s doubters are increasingly difficult to spot Manchester City hammered Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium to record their 16th win on trot Reuters City arguably had the best side on paper the last two seasons Yet it could not even finish in the top two So what has changed Certainly there is a sense that players have been made to buy into Guardiola’s ideas Last season the likes of Gael Clichy Pablo Zabaleta Aleksandar Kolarov and Jesus Navas held them back The wide players in Guardiola’s system are vital They stretch play run directly look for angled passes into the box among other things There was a marked difference on Saturday Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling had the beating of Spurs in the wide areas all match Sane particularly gave Kieran Trippier a horrible time It was indeed curious to see Mauricio Pochettino stick with the young full-back despite having Serge Aurier on the bench Sane with his two nimble feet time and again beat Trippier to put a delectable ball in the box The German finished with two assists and he could have had more The funny thing about City’s 4-1 win was that it could have been much worse for Spurs Numerous chances were missed and we are not talking just about Gabriel Jesus’ botched penalty It took City however only the opening quarter to start the shelling For all the host’s dominance it was a moment of generosity which shook the score-line Pochettino was not pleased as one of the shortest men on the pitch Ilkay Gundogan took advantage of lax defending to head home from Sane’s corner "The way we conceded the first goal was a massive gift for Manchester City It changed completely all that you prepare and wanted to develop on the pitch” said the Spurs manager afterwards It certainly did Spurs had begun the game looking to hustle City; after the first goal they were forced to chase it leaving spaces for the host to exploit This played into the hands of City’s most dangerous player Kevin De Bruyne After the match Guardiola could not find words to describe the Belgian’s performance As he has shown in other games against big sides this season De Bruyne can find space where it seemingly cannot be found Making a deft run here opening up the pitch with a clever touch there the playmaker delights by squirreling on the pitch with innumerable posers in tow We learnt something new about him yesterday as well; at least something that is not well-known De Bruyne’s left foot is stronger than it was thought to be For the second goal a mistake by Harry Kane allowed City to break in numbers and the Belgian was released by Sane on the left Initially it seemed De Bruyne would deliver one of his characteristically searing passes into the six-yard box; rather he unleashed a venomous left-footed shot which Hugo Lloris could not parry despite getting a hand to it De Bruyne had once discussed how he acquired the comfort of playing with two feet “Because I destroyed too many flowers & shrubs I was banned from using my right foot by my [childhood] neighbour His objection did have a huge advantage: I could practice with my left" Now De Bruyne destroys defences The Belgian’s goal took the life out of Spurs who had threatened to make a match of it early in the second half The overwhelming dominance of City eventually had its say as Sterling carried himself to the position of top-scorer for the club this season A special mention though should be reserved for goalkeeper Ederson who is quietly having a fantastic season On Saturday he completed 26 passes reaching his teammates with attempts that traversed over 50 yards Guardiola was much criticised for rejecting Joe Hart last season due to his inadequate ball circulation but he seems to have found the answer in Ederson The Brazilian goalie’s completed passes were more than Christian Eriksen (24) and Dele Alli (17) Although the former snatched a goal in the end the latter once again flattered to deceive Alli has been unable to touch the heights of the last two campaigns although that is not uncommon in a player’s developmental stage His temperament however is liable to put him in more trouble — the studs-on challenge on De Bruyne was worthy of a sending-off With another defeat away from home against a fellow top six side Spurs have been left with much to ponder Pochettino knows that his side’s indifferent form is not helping the club’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League again However it is improbable that his players will have to battle an opposition of City’s calibre every now and then For Guardiola’sCity are setting a standard rarely witnessed in English football; 16 straight wins and counting It will take a slide of miraculous proportions for the title to slip away now Guardiola is doing his thing again Kolkata: The first team to make the pre- quarterfinals from Group F in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Englandon Wednesday found themselves in a state of "luxury" but coach Steve Cooper warned against complacency Up 3-0 inside one hour England conceded two goals in a space of seven minutes to settle for a 3-2 win against two- time champions Mexico in the process notching up their second straight win File image of Steve Cooper Credit: FA "It’s a luxury to qualify after two games But we are not thinking past the group stage yet We have to show respect to our next opposition by recovering and putting on a good show again" Cooper said about their final group match against Iraqin Kolkata in three days’ time "Today was a difficult game as well It shows quality and strength We showed that in abundance tonight We are ready to recover and play the next game We are a team I’m pleased with the performance no doubt about that" Should they top the group England will play their pre- quarterfinal at the Salt Lake Stadium and Cooper said they have developed a strong connect with the city "We are absolutely loving it in Kolkata The huge support at the stadium and people around training ground is just amazing We will be doing some community work at a school tomorrow We want to be visible among the local people in Kolkata" Their defence crumbled in the last 30 minutes as El Tri bounced back through a splendid brace by Diego Lainez "I thought we were wary of them in the second half As for conceding the two goals this can happen with young players It’s a learning opportunity for them "But we did not crumble and concede a third We have got six points from two games that’s more important" Borussia Dortmund-bound Jadon Sancho may be on his way to join the Bundesliga giants but Cooper said they have enough firepower in their ranks to replace the star player who has three goals in two matches "We have got 21 players I’m happy to play them England is not about just one player I’m comfortable with playing 21 that what’s we do in managing players I’m really happy with the result" On their next opposition Iraq he said: "We are in a tough group a group with a variety of opposition I don’t think there’s any easy game in the World Cup The best example was tonight We can only concentrate on ourselves" Mexico may be staring at an early exit but coach Mario Arteaga said there’s still a lot of football left to be played "We still have one match left We will fight hard against Chile and ensure that Mexico reach the pre-quarterfinals" Arteaga said as they shift base to Guwahati along with Chile to play their last group match on 14 October He sounded optimistic about the next game "We are prepared for the big challenges Fortunately no one is injured and everyone is available for our match against Chile They have a really good central attack We are not taking them lightly" Lainez did a turnaround for Mexico with two goals in the second half and the coach said the Club America midfielder’s confidence has got a big boost ahead of the big match "It was definitely important for him He had his chances in the last match (in 1-1 draw against Iraq) but was stopped by the goalkeeper Today’s (Wednesday) show gives him a lot of confidence for the rest of the tournament We hope to come back for the final" Arteaga signed off Written by Express News Service | Published: April 4 2013 2:17 am Top News A sessions court voters after Pune went to polls on April 17 With nearly 1340 appeals coming to the collectorate and a public interest litigation being filed district election officials said they had now initiated a “thorough probe” into the role of officials who were responsible for carrying out the voters’ registration drive and submitting a report on the deletion of names in these areas “During the registration drive the booth-level officers were to accept Form 6 which is for new registrations and Form 7 which is for deletion of names They were supposed to individually go and check whether the voters resided on the given address or not and also see if their names already existed on the EPIC list or not A house-to-house survey was mandatory and these officers had to report their findings to the assistant returning officer” said an officer at the collectorate Having received many complaints pertaining to the booth-level officers not doing the needful and even not turning up at the booths the election department decided to probe the reasons behind the “deletion of names” “We are starting with the complaints received by us We would check with the booth-level officers concerned why the names were deleted and what process they had followed while deleting the names However this cannot be done for all the deleted names as that would be a tedious task” added the official On April 17 regular voters were surprised to find their names missing from the list According to rules a panchnama is required if any registered voter is found to be dead or not living on the given address “It is doubtful that the booth-level officers followed the process for every deleted name If it is so each of these case needs to be brought to the fore” said Pratap Gaikwad who has filed a PIL that was adjourned last week and is up for hearing on Tuesday “In our PIL we have pointed out that there is definite human lacunae We have recently given a list of all the names that were missing from the electoral roll The number comes to nearly 4 lakh” said Gaikwad The district collector had submitted the complaints to the Election Commission after scrutiny of all the “missing” names There were also complaints of new registrations not included in the list The complaints were mainly from the six Assembly constituencies of Kasba Peth Pune Cantonment Parvati Kothrud Shivajinagar and Vadgaon Sheri Earlier last week the state government questioned the maintainability of the PIL filed by Gaikwad The state told the Bombay High Court that it had received complaints regarding only 1340 missing names
